Fiji relaxes entry requirements for vaccinated travelers

With Fiji’s eligible population achieving over 90% full vaccination status, and the campaign for booster shots well underway, the country has been able to maintain a very low rate of Covid19.
Travelers to Fiji are no longer required to produce a PCR test, and no longer need to go into quarantine upon entry.
As of 1st May 2022, all international travelers to Fiji ages 16 and above only need to produce a vaccination certificate with a Fiji recognized dose, and book an in-country Rapid Antigen Test prior to departure to Fiji which has to be completed 48-72 hours upon arrival.

There are many compelling reasons to study in Fiji, and here are some of them:

  1. You get many opportunities to use English inside and outside the school.

  3. You get to experience summer all year!
  4. You get to study English at half the price of studying in Europe or the United States.

Why Study in Fiji

1.Real-world opportunities to use English

There are tons of opportunities to use English in Fiji!
Aside from communicating with teachers and classmates at school and with homestay families, students also get to interact with the people of Fiji who are always happy to socialize with international students.
Fijians are well-known to be some of the friendliest people in the world, so students will find that locals always initiate greetings and pleasantries, and will give a warm and friendly “Bula!” at every chance they get.
If students feel unsure about their English level when interacting with locals, they don’t need to worry. Fiji locals are very accommodating.
They patiently listen and speak to international visitors with care.
In volunteer projects and other social activities, students have the chance to immerse themselves in the local community.
One of the best ways to enhance language skills is to use them with purpose; and what better purpose than taking part in the local community?

2.Learn to be happy with the “happiest people in the world”

In 2014, 2016, and 2017, Fiji topped Gallup International’s World Happiness Ranking.
While everyone seems to want to be happy, people rarely think about the concept of what makes people truly happy. Probably the most effective way to learn about being happy is to immerse oneself in the environment and lifestyle of a genuinely happy population.
The unique experience of “Fijian happiness” is what makes studying in Fiji stand out from studying anywhere else.

Rather than just seeing or reading about them from the media, Colors students experience what makes Fijians the “happiest people in the world,” and might even pick up a thing or two about being happy.

3.Year-round summer

With an average temperature of 23 to 28 degrees Celcius, students can be sure to enjoy summer activities all year long! They enjoy water sports, outdoor games, or simply lounge by the beach with cocktails any day of the year.

4.Safety

Crime rate in Fiji is very low.

5.Students pay less than half the price of studying in Europe or the United States

Learners of all levels welcome

Everyone is welcome at Colors Fiji English School! Even if they have never had formal English lessons before, we would love to have students of all levels at Colors.
Each student at Colors is assigned an English Language Mentor who takes them for one-on-one sessions daily. The mentors conduct Leaning Needs Analysis to determine language study goals, then design lessons to help learners attain their specific goals.
Mentors and group study teachers sincerely care for the students throughout their learning journey, cheerfully guiding them through lessons, as well as providing motivational support.
On top of English language instruction experience, the head teacher has experience in training management and organization development, and a background in philosophy, including theories of language and knowledge. With these as the foundations of people management in Colors, the teaching team has the unique advantage of being well-trained, reflective, highly collaborative, and very adaptable.
The teaching team at Colors may arguably be the most highly-trained group of ESL instructors in Fiji. The teachers go through a rigorous training process that equips them with concept-based teaching strategies and interdisciplinary methods. Continuous and regular feedbacking customized to the professional needs of each teacher, and consultation among students, management, and co-teachers ensure that the high quality of mentoring and learning experiences are maintained, with lessons periodically adapted to fast-changing environments. Teachers go through a continuous evaluation process that encourages them to reflect on their teaching styles, and empowers them to create inventive ways to meet the specific needs of students.

English curriculum at Colors

Colors is the only language school in Fiji that offers one-on-one sessions as part of the regular curriculum.
In one-on-one sessions, your assigned English language mentor conducts Leaning Needs Analysis to determine your English study goals.
Your mentor then designs lessons and customizes activities to address your specific needs, whether it is to use English for practical purposes or to master techniques for standardized tests.
One-on-one teachers and group teachers also provide consultation services to students, recommending activities, assignments, and content to work on during independent study sessions.
Colors maintains a maximum of only six students per group class to ensure each student is given sufficient attention by the teacher. Language instruction at Colors uses the Headway resources from Oxford University Press, the world’s most trusted English course work for English language learners and teachers.

Optional courses for all levels

Apart from the compulsory classes, students can choose to take any of the optional courses designed to further enhance their English language skills

Standard course

The standard compulsory course consists of: one one-on-one session with an assigned English language mentor, four group sessions with an English language group teacher, and one independent learning session to accomplish assignments or produce project-based work.
※1session = 50 minutes

Skills Enrichment Course – LRSW

In the Skills Enrichment Course, students get to solidify the four main language skills: listening, reading, speaking, writing (LRSW). The course teacher guides students through learning experiences that build their processing abilities through the receptive (input) skills of listening and reading, and enhance their expressive abilities through the productive (output) skills of speaking and writing.
Learners go through engaging activities and projects that help them keep an eye on their progress as they continue to improve.
※Standard course (compulsory) + 7th class (4 times a week)

Effective Speaking Course

In the Effective Speaking Course, students are guided through learning experiences that encourage spontaneous and extensive English speaking. Unlike other speaking lessons that focus merely on the mechanics of speech, the Effective Speaking course at Colors ensures that students speak meaningfully and productively by also structuring creative reasoning and solidifying the organization of thoughts at the same time. Apart from providing techniques for pronunciation and fluency, this course also lets students work on analyzing and categorizing ideas for organized delivery, practice non-verbal communication such as body language and voice modulation, and capitalize on real-world speaking opportunities and interdisciplinary projects from small talk all the way to formal presentations.
※Standard course (compulsory) + 7th class (4 times a week)

Volunteer and Cultural Exchange Program

The Volunteer and Cultural Exchange Program at Colors provides very well thought-out projects for students to get actively involved in in the community.
One of the best ways to pick up a new language is to use it with purpose in an environment where the target language is prevalent, and Colors believes local community-based activities are the best real-world experiences to set learning goals in.
This program lets students engage in challenging language learning activities that expose them to a variety of enriching interactions within social and environmental initiatives.
※actual cost only

Working Holiday Program

The Working Holiday Program at Colors gives students the opportunity to learn about and simulate some of the most important aspects of working abroad.
With classes and assignments simulating resume-writing, job interviews, customer service, and interacting with co-workers in multicultural environments, students in the Working Holiday course build confidence to apply the English skills necessary to maximize their working holiday experience.
※Complimentary

Volunteer and Cultural Exchange

The Volunteer Projects and Cultural Exchange Programs at Colors is a social enterprise that sets the school apart from other learning institutions. With strong social and environmental awareness, Colors runs and supports community projects that are genuinely impactful and meaningful to the host country.
Keeping their eyes firmly planted on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), teachers and students themselves plan, organize, implement, and – most importantly – sustain projects that make an impact on the community they serve.
Projects such as learning support for local school kids, street and beach clean-up drives, specialized expert support and manpower to local organizations, collecting and sorting essentials for donations, organizing and running Japanese art activities for special interest groups, and preparing food for local families are some of the meaningful ways Colors students have been involved in service and cultural exchange.
All of Colors’ volunteer projects are implemented with careful consideration and thorough consultation with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all activities and interactions are ethical and purposeful.

Quality Accommodations

Well-appointed student flats

Students can feel comfortable and secure in any of Colors’ shared housing options.
For a reasonable fee, students can share in any of the well-appointed flats close to the school.
All the shared flats have air-conditioned rooms, and the facilities are regularly cleaned and maintained.

Homestay

Homestay experiences are some of the best parts of traveling and studying abroad. Every homestay arrangement has a host or an entire host family who are ready to welcome students into their home.
They help students settle into life in Fiji, and guide them through some of the most interesting local lifestyle practices.
In homestay arrangements, students get to have a “second home” in Fiji with a family they can return to if they visit Fiji again someday – many students do!
Experiencing the Fiji lifestyle first-hand in a home environment gives students much deeper insight into the local culture, and makes adjusting to the social environment more enjoyable. On top of using English to communicate frequently with the host family, making lifelong memories with a “second family” can open up opportunities to new and exciting experiences.
Colors very carefully selects hosts and host families, always keeping in mind that the well-being of students is the top priority.
The company evaluates all host and host family applications.
Applicants must submit detailed requirements proving their suitability, and the company conducts multiple home visits and rigorous interviews before they are accepted.
Once they pass the evaluation, they are officially registered with the school as a homestay provider, then go through a comprehensive “host family orientation”.
During homestay, hosts and homestay students are periodically interviewed and surveyed to continuously evaluate the quality and suitability of the hosts and their facilities.

Study in a multicultural classroom

Studying English in a mixed environment where students have different first languages and cultures compels everyone to speak English.
That way, English communications skills are dramatically improved through real-life application, and students can keep track of each other’s progress as they keep interacting with classmates.
T As students get a glimpse of each other’s unique cultures, students create memories with friends who gather in Fiji for the shared purpose of studying English!
